Peco products are manufactured in England by Pritchard Patent Product Co. Ltd. Est. 1946

Their range of products are models of British outline prototypes, covering a broad range of modelling scales, for example Peco track is available in Z scale, N scale, OO/HO scale, O scale, and Gauge 1 popularly known as G scale. In addition to these narrow gauge track to suit N-6.5, OO-9/HOe, HOm, O-16.5, SM-32, & G45 is available. Also a range of rail, sleepers etc. to hand lay track is available.

The "Peco Lectrics" range of items include solenoid type point motors, adaptor / mounting plates to suit these point motors, and accessory switches to fit them, a wheel cleaning brush & scraper that can be connected to track power to rotate loco wheels whilst cleaning them, a loco servicing cradle, track cleaning rubber, a range of electrical switches, and a stud & probe setup to use in control panels to operate point solenoids without using switches.

Wagon kits are available in N scale, OO scale, & O scale, as well as narrow gauge wagon, rolling stock, and some loco body kits & chassis in N-6.5 scale, OO-9 scale, & O-16.5 scale.

Lineside & scenic kits are available in Z scale, N scale, OO/HO scale, & O scale.

There are two types of Peco points available -

Insulfrog (insulated frog) have the frog rails  insulated from each other by the moulded plastic tip on the end of the frog assembly. Each blade is only electrically connected to its respective frog rail, so the "open" blade has no power to it unless it is being fed back from the frog rail. These points "switch" track current so that only the track for which the blades are set is electrically alive. (except single & double slips)

Electrofrog (Live Frog) have the tip at the end of the frog formed by the solid metal rail, which means that both frog rails and point blades are electrically common. All this means in reality that both frog rails must be fitted with insulated rail joiners when connecting track to the point to prevent a short circuit if power is fed into the point frog from track connected to them. Electrofrog points also "switch" the track current so that only the track for which the blades are set is electrically alive. Care must be taken when using electrofrog points that wheels with an under specification "back to back  distance" do not short against the open blade as they pass through.

Personally I now only use electrofrog points as I found that as a result of heavy use the plastic frog tip in insulfrog points wears down causing wheels to "drop" into the frog and make trains lurch as they pass over the point.
